Chapter 9. REHABILITATION FOR LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM INJURIES

The purpose of the lesson is to teach students to use the means and forms of PT at various stages of patient rehabilitation (hospital-clinic-sanatorium) based on knowledge of the mechanisms for compensating for impaired functions in cases of LMS injuries.

Test questions and tasks for background information check.

1. What are the causes ofjoints contractures?

2. What activities should be carried out after a limb fracture?

3. What are the clinical symptoms and examination of the patient with spine injury (for example, an injury to the cervical spine)?

4. Describe the periods of treatment of patients with injuries of the limbs.

5. List the main methods of treatment for patients with a fracture of the upper third of the thigh.

6. What are the most commonly used treatments for patients with femoral diaphysis fractures?

7. List the main reasons for the possible development of contracture in the elbow joint (for example, a fracture of the condyles of the humerus).

8. Why after successful stitching of the flexor tendon, is it often impossible to restore the function of the finger?

9. What are the types of amputated limbs? Preparation for prosthetics.

10. What are the main and auxiliary massage techniques used for damage

to the LMS?

Skills to be mastered by the student (trainee) during the training session.

► Assess the patient's condition (visual-analogue pain scale, anthropometric studies of the damaged limb, of the spine, muscle testing) and formulate the goal and objectives of rehabilitation treatment.

► Determine the patient's motor regimen, means and forms of PT at different stages of rehabilitation treatment.

► Areas of therapeutic massage in patients with damage to the limbs and spine. Principal and auxiliary massage methods.
